Why Food Pantries Matter More Today

Across the country, many families are feeling financial pressure in ways they haven’t before. Even with a steady job, the rising cost of groceries, housing, utilities, and health care—along with cutbacks in federal funding—are causing more families to stretch their monthly budgets.

Because of this, the families seeking assistance are changing. Food pantries are becoming an essential part of communities, helping families bridge the gap during difficult moments.

What you may not see are parents skipping meals so their children can eat, seniors choosing between medication and groceries, and families stretching food farther than it should go.

Food pantries today are about more than just providing food. They help preserve dignity, support families during hard seasons, ensure children and seniors have access to nutritious meals, and build stronger neighborhoods. Many pantries can also help connect people with other resources that may provide additional support.

Many families in our community could benefit from the services of a food pantry but are afraid to come forward. I want to say clearly: there is no shame in seeking assistance.

You have not failed your family. Times are tough, and our community is here to support you.

Sometimes the hardest step is simply asking for help. Our pantry exists so that families in our community never have to face difficult times alone. If you need support, please know that you will always be welcomed with kindness, dignity, and understanding.
